Katz’s Deli

A few miles away from our new home, we have our own piece of New York City heaven in the form of Katz’s Deli.

Located at 1658 Litchfield Turnpike in Woodbridge Connecticut, you can find some great NYC style foods from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Coleslaw and Homemade Pickles

As it’s tradition in this type of establishments (classic Jewish fare in throwback digs), they start you up with Homemade Coleslaw and Pickles. And let me tell you this is the most fresh slaw and crunchy pickles you will ever find here in Connecticut. My wife and I will eat only that if necessary.

But you really go there for the traditional sandwiches made in the world renowned style of the Katz’s Delicatessen.

We went there, in the middle of the week so it was not very busy. But we have seen the lines out the door on the weekends, so plan ahead, as this place is medium size with regards to restaurants.

Nevertheless, the staff is pretty attentive and pleasant.

The semi-open kitchen gives a welcoming vibe to the place and the smells are inviting and will definitely open your appetite.

Then there is the food…

With a large selection of Reubens, Rachels, Bagels, Smoked Fish Sandwiches, Classic Sandwiches, soups and Burgers; you will find something on the menu that will become your new favorite.

In my case this takes the form of the Pastrami Reuben, steamed pastrami served on grilled rye with melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing. Classic!!

Hit your plate with some spicy mustard and some ketchup so you can dip the gigantic Reubens.

You can also call ahead and order so your food will be ready when you get there and you can skip the line. They also offer catering.

Order yourself a nice Malted Milkshake to compliment your enormous sandwich and think of me when you do.

You will not be disappointed.
