Homage to Hokusai (The Great Wave)

When I was in Primary school, I was very artistic.

I used to get all A+s on all my drawings. And I used to draw a lot! (I wish I had access to those drawings).

Maybe, that is where my need to be creative comes from…

I have always wanted to draw again. I am not good at it, even though I know is something we can all learn and it just takes practice. Maybe some day.

In the mean time, I take pictures.

That doesn’t mean that I don admire Art. On the contrary, I am always reading or watching videos about art.

One of my favorite pieces is called “Under the Wave off Kanagawa” (Kanagawa oki nami ura), also known as The Great Wave. If you have never seen it, here it is:

The Great Wave by Katsushika Hokusai

A Diminutive Mount Fuji gets lost under the crest of a giant wave while a couple of Japanese rowing boats battle the sea…

You can watch a great video that explains the artwork on Great Art Explained YouTube Channel.

Is is a quintessential example of Asian Art. Of which, I am a big fan!

I got out of the house on our way to visit my mother-in-law, and the skies were menacing with an impending storm. I took a couple of pictures with my phone and got on our way with my wife.

It wasn’t until I brought the photo onto Adobe Lightroom® that I saw the similarity between my photo and my beloved art piece. Maybe, I am the only one that can see it… 😃

Totally serendipitous!
